The Utah Jazz got off to a rough start on their four-game Eastern trip, losing a well-contested game against the Toronto Raptors, 122-114, at Scotiabank Arena. This new year road swing continues Friday in Cleveland.
Here are four takeaways from Tuesday's game:
• The Raptors shot the lights out, hitting 54.9 percent of their shots, and nobody hurt the Jazz more than Toronto newcomer Kawhi Leonard. The former Spurs star scored a career-high 45 points, including 16 of 22 from the field and 13-17 from the free-throw line.
• Backup forward Jae Crowder had quite the comeback after missing time with a thumb injury. He led the Jazz in scoring with 30 points off the bench, including 5-for-7 shooting from 3-point range. Crowder hit one of his threes with four minutes remaining to cut Toronto's lead to four, but the Jazz couldn't get any closer.
• The Jazz starting backcourt produced 33 points but struggled with consistency as Donovan Mitchell went for 19 points on 7-for-22 shooting and Ricky Rubio, back after missing Saturday's game, missed 11 of 17 shots en route to 14 points.
• Pascal Siakam also had a huge night for Toronto, which improved to 28-11. He scored a career-best 28 points with 10 rebounds for the Raptors, who took control of the game by outscoring the Jazz 44-32 in the third quarter. Toronto only had five offensive rebounds, but two of them came in a damaging sequence in which the Jazz had two chances to get the ball back trailing by four but couldn't snare the defensive board.
