Cops vs firefighters: 18th annual charity hockey game this weekend

WEST VALLEY CITY — Past and present police officers and firefighters will face off Saturday in the 18th annual "Guns and Hoses" charity hockey game.

Proceeds from the event go directly to surviving family members of first responders who have died in the line of duty.

The event starts at 12:30 p.m. at the Maverik Center. The "Guns and Hoses" game is scheduled for 2:30 p.m., with a ceremonial puck drop by Elizabeth Romrell, widow of South Salt Lake police officer David Romrell, and Heather Burchett and son Griffin, survivors of Draper Fire Battalion Chief Matt Burchett. This year's fundraising is focused on helping the Romrells, Burchetts as well as the family of Provo police officer Joseph Shinners, who was killed Jan. 5.

A ticket to the charity game also admits access to the Utah Grizzlies game against the Tulsa Oilers, which is at 7 p.m.

Tickets can be purchased by contacting Utah Guns and Hoses Hockey on its Facebook page and are sold at a reduced price than tickets bought the box office or online ticket vendors.
