SAN DIEGO — Utah fans made a big showing at the Holiday Bowl. Deputy athletics director Scott Kull, who oversees external operations, estimated that more than 20,000 Ute supporters attended Monday night's game against Northwestern at San Diego County Credit Union Stadium.
The announced attendance was 47,007.
"There's a great crowd here and we're so happy that the Ute fans came out in support of this great football team," Kull said.
Utah, obviously, sold well above its initial allotment of 7,000 tickets. Kull noted that 9,000 alums live within a 100-mile radius of San Diego and a really, really good contingent of Ute fans were expected.
"We want to make sure our fans know that buying tickets through us really influences our participation in other bowl games in the future," Kull said. "Because bowls, they want to know that you'll come out and support the team. So it's really, really important."
