#openSUSE Tumbleweed review of week 52 of 2018

openSUSE Tumbleweed is a "Rolling Release" distribution in continuous development. Here you can keep up to date with the latest news

 Tumbleweed

openSUSE Tumbleweed is the "rolling release" version or continuous update of the GNU / Linux distribution openSUSE.

Let's make a review of the news that has come to the repositories this week at openSUSE Tumbleweed.

The original announcement can be read on the blog of Dominique Leuenberger published under CC license -by-sa, on this link:

ISO's are installable, but if you're already enjoying openSUSE Tumbleweed on your computer, you'll just have to update it using this command although recently a simple zypper dup does all the work already .

Begins the year 2019, but still there is time to do a review not only the previous week, it was still 2018 if not also to the latest "snapshot s "published in 2018

Only 5" snapshots "have been published that have not been reviewed by the blog, 1213, 1214, 1218, 1219 and 1224. After that OBS decided to force a break, since the software that failed pack the "snapshots".

Among the most notable of those "snapshots" you can find:

  • Table 18.3.1 (updated from version 18.1.x)
  • Qt 5.12.0
  • Linux kernel 4.19.8 and 4.19.11
  • Mozilla Firefox 64.0
  • KDE Applications 18.12.0
  • KDE Frameworks 5.53.0
  • Change to LLVM 7
  • Perl 5.28.0

As you can see they are juicy and important updates before the end of the year!

And as always, let's take a look at the news that will bring us next updates. These updates are checked using the openQA test, which makes openSUSE a reliable distribution:

  • Redesign of the installer: returns the sidebar (showing where the installation process is arriving at all times). This is being checked in the Factory test version, but it still gives some problems in the tests, which means that at the moment there are no new "snapshots".
  • glibc 2.28, Python 3.7, openssl 1.1.1: [19659017] The main problem blocking these packages is perl5.28. Although the solution is still far since Python 3.7 is incompatible with Salt
  • Linux kernel 4.20
  • tcl 8.6.9, there is currently some problem with sqlite3

If you want to be up to date with updated software and tested use openSUSE Tumbleweed the rolling release option of the openSUSE GNU / Linux distribution.

Stay updated and you already know: Have a lot of fun !!
