LAYTON — The City Council has announced it will interview candidates for an open position on the council member during a special session on Thursday, Feb. 28.
The vacancy was created when Councilman Scott Freitag was named mayor earlier this month. Frietag took over for former Layton Mayor Bob Stevenson, who resigned to serve on the Davis County Commission.
Anyone interested in being appointed to fill the term, which expires on Jan. 1, 2020, must submit an application in person at the Layton City Center, 437 N. Wasatch Drive, no later than noon on Monday, Feb. 11.
Applications are available at laytoncity.org under "City Recorder" or in person at the city center. In addition, applicants must also submit a resume and a 500-word-or-less statement of interest indicating why they would like to be a member of the council.
Applicants must also be a U.S. citizen, registered to vote in Layton and have resided in the community for 12 consecutive months before the date of the appointment.
Potential candidates will be interviewed during an open meeting at 4 p.m. in the council chambers. Following the interviews, the council will appoint Frietag's replacement.
