'The Masked Singer' renewed for Season 2. Here's what to expect

SALT LAKE CITY — We're getting a second season.

Fox renewed "The Masked Singer" for a second season on Wednesday following what's been viral success for the show.

"The Masked Singer" is reportedly this TV season's highest-rated new series and ranks among the top broadcasts across all networks, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

• "The response to 'The Masked Singer' has been fantastic, and we are thrilled to bring it back for another season," Rob Wade, president, alternative entertainment and specials at Fox, said Wednesday in a statement, according to THR. "I am so happy to see a singing peacock burst into pop culture! 'The Masked Singer' is unique, bold, original and embraces the DNA of all the best Fox unscripted series. We look forward to season two being even more fun, weird and wonderful than the first."

The show: The show is based off of a South Korean series that puts 12 celebrity singers against each other. All the celebs are asked to wear costumes and give clues to who is under the mask. One masked singer is revealed each week. The audience tries to figure out who is underneath the mask while also judging the performances of the characters.

• Celebrities on the show, like Margaret Cho, admit they don't even know who they're performing with on the series.
• Utah's Donny Osmond is rumored to be the Peacock character. His sister, Marie, may have already confirmed this, according to my report.

Plans: Executive producer Craig Plestis told THR he has a number of celebs he would love to have on the show next year.

• "Hopefully the individuals will watch it and be inspired to be on the show and, just like in Korea and in Thailand, it really sparks a lot of other people to want to be on the show and surprise their kids when they're watching the show," he said. "It's such a family show over there and a lot of moms and dads go on the show and they don't tell their family, so they watch it together and then, when the mask comes off, the kids go crazy."
