BOUNTIFUL — Mueller Park Jr. High School will have an increased police presence Friday after a student allegedly made a threat toward the school, according to a statement sent to parents from the school's principal, Deanne Kapetanov.
Bountiful police on Thursday investigated rumors of the threat that were shared on social media and after parents called the school. None of the rumors were substantiated, according Kapetanov's message.
"We continue to take all threats seriously and there will be an added police presence at our school tomorrow," the message said. "That being said, our school is safe, and we look forward to ending the week positively and quietly."
Kapetanov praised parents for notifying the school of the alleged threat.
"Thanks for all you do to support our school," Kapetanov said in the statement. "As a reminder, we always practice 'See Something, Say Something.' If ever you see something out of the ordinary or have a concern about school safety, please contact us and/or use the Safe UT app."
Mueller Park made headlines in December 2016 when a 15-year-old student took two guns to the school and fired a shot into the ceiling before his parents, who had come looking for him, disarmed him. No one was injured and the teen was later sentenced to spend time in a secure juvenile detention facility.
