UVU issues shelter-in-place alert after man injured in shooting near school

OREM — Utah Valley University is asking those near the school to shelter in place after a reported shooting at an apartment complex.

The shooting occurred Thursday evening about 8 p.m. at the Parkway Lofts Apartments, 1225 W. 1000 S., south of a UTA FrontRunner station, Orem Police Lt. Trent Colledge said.

One man was injured and taken to a hospital. Colledge said he didn't know what condition the man was in as of late Thursday evening.

Those who live in the area were also urged to stay inside.

After the shooting, a man fled from the area, Colledge said. Police recovered the gun used in the shooting.

The lieutenant said the two men know each other and there isn't believed to be an imminent danger to the public. Additional details about what led to the shooting weren't immediately available.

The shelter-in-place warning was a cautionary measure, Colledge said.
