SALT LAKE CITY — Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders said Disney should use "Avengers: Endgame" profits to pay employees a "middle-class wage."
Sanders said Monday it would be "truly heroic" if Disney used its profits from "Endgame" to pay all of its workers more.
"Avengers: Endgame" earned $1.2 billion over the weekend from the worldwide box office, The Associated Press reports. "Endgame" broke the record for the biggest opening weekend with $350 million in ticket sales domestically.
"What would be truly heroic is if Disney used its profits from 'Avengers' to pay all of its workers a middle-class wage, instead of paying its CEO Bob Iger $65.6 million – over 1,400 times as much as the average worker at Disney makes," Sanders tweeted.
Flashback: Sanders called for an increase in pay for workers in August, according to Fox News. He also congratulated Disney's workers for securing a $15 minimum wage.
"Congratulations to the courageous workers and their unions at Disney World for their historic victory. I applaud everyone who stood up to demand that workers at one of the wealthiest corporations in the world should have a decent standard of living," he tweeted in August.
Like Sanders, Abigail Disney, the granddaughter of Disney co-founder Roy Disney, called Disney CEO Bob Iger's compensation "insane," which I wrote about for the Deseret News. Iger made $65.6 million during the 2018 fiscal year.
