SALT LAKE CITY — Charges were filed Wednesday against a man accused of stabbing his siblings because he didn’t want to return a car, and then threatening restaurant employees because he ran of out gas, according to charging documents.

Abdullah Mohammed Abdi, 30, who is listed as homeless, was charged in 3rd District Court with aggravated robbery, a first-degree felony, and two counts of aggravated assault, a third-degree felony.

On Aug. 23, Abdi went to visit his sister in the area of 4000 S. West Temple to tell her she could not have her car back, according to charging documents. He then stabbed her in the arm with a knife and then a second time in the leg when she tried to block him, the charges state. Abdi stopped the attack when his sister said “OK” and he left, according to the charges.

As he ran out of the house, Abdi was confronted by his brother, who told him to give the keys back, the charges state. Abdi refused and made a stabbing motion toward his brother, which the brother blocked with his arm, the charges state. Both the brother and sister received stitches for their injuries, according to the charges.

A short time later, police were called to Mi Rancherito’s Grill, 3600 S. State, where Abdi had run out of gas. Abdi asked an employee for money. But when the employee said no, Abdi retrieved a knife from the car and attempted to stab him, the charges state. A second employee went outside and saw Abdi “making slashing movements” toward the employee “while threatening to kill him,” according to charging documents.

After police were called and Abdi was arrested, three knives were located in the trunk of his car, the charges state.
