Man charged in connection with woman found unconscious in Salt Lake alley

SALT LAKE CITY — Attorneys for a man accused of assaulting a woman and leaving her unconscious in an alley have requested a bail hearing for their client.

On Aug. 15, a woman was found unconscious and in life-threatening condition in the middle of a road in a dead-end alley near 1351 S. Jefferson St. Doctors determined she had suffered a broken arm, required stitches in her right ear and staples on the left side of her head, according to charging documents.

Based on surveillance video collected from the area, Salt Lake police began looking for a black Nissan SUV.

Michael Scott Peck, 49, of Kearns, was charged in 3rd District Court with forcible sodomy, a first-degree felony; and two counts of aggravated assault, a second-degree felony.

The woman later told police that she agreed to perform a sex act on Peck. But while that was happening, he “wrapped something around her neck and strangled her to unconsciousness,” the charges state.

Prosecutors noted in the charges that the sex act did not become consensual once the woman was strangled. The woman did not regain consciousness until police and medical crews were attending to her in the street.

Peck’s SUV was located on Aug. 22 and he was arrested.

A judge has ordered Peck be held without bail. His attorneys have requested a hearing to discuss bail on Sept. 20, according to court records.

Court records show Peck has a long criminal history.
