Crash occurred during World of Speed event, police say

WENDOVER — A man was critically injured Sunday afternoon when he crashed during a race at the World of Speed event at the Bonneville Salt Flats, police said.

The man was traveling over 350 mph in an aeronautical, or low-friction vehicle, when he crashed on the Salt Flats Race Track, said Wendover police officer Nic Francis.

Francis believes the man was flown to the University Hospital in critical condition.

Additional information, including the cause of the crash, was not immediately available.
