SALT LAKE CITY — The 11th-ranked Utah Utes got off to a great start and cruised past the Idaho State Bengals 31-0 at Rice-Eccles Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

The Utes opened up a 17-0 lead in the first quarter and scored a touchdown apiece in the second and third quarters. Utah used a bunch of its backups in the second half.

The Utes finished with 543 total yards compared to just 116 for the Bengals.

Here are three takeaways from the game:

Utah’s offense did what it wanted

Both quarterback Tyler Huntley and running back Zack Moss had good stat lines despite limited action. Huntley finished 15-of-19 for 282 yards with three touchdowns, while Moss finished with 106 yards on the ground on just 10 carries with a touchdown.

Utah’s defense controlled the game

The Bengals barely got over the century mark in total yards as a bunch of Utah players had nice days. Linebacker Devin Lloyd led the way with nine tackles, including a couple for loss.

A bunch of players got experience

Perhaps the best thing to come out of the day beside the win was the fact that Utah could rest its starters for so long with Pac-12 play on the horizon. A natural byproduct of that is that lesser-used players got a bunch of reps.

Backup quarterback Drew Lisk went 6-for-6 for 38 yards, four running backs beside Moss combined to get 19 carries and a slew of defensive players saw action.

The Bengals enter Saturday’s contest having played just one game so far this season, a 38-13 win over Western Colorado on Sept. 5.

Kickoff is scheduled for 2:15 p.m. MDT. Follow along with our live coverage here.
