SALT LAKE CITY — About a dozen people were treated with oxygen after pepper spray was accidentally discharged in the lobby of a Salt Lake restaurant Wednesday night.
The Salt Lake City Fire Department responded to the Chuck-A-Rama Buffet, 744 E. 400 South, about 8 p.m. to find people coughing and showing other symptoms of being exposed to pepper spray, battalion chief Karl Steadman said.
An estimated 12 people were treated on the scene, Steadman said. None of the patients were seriously injured.
“In an enclosed space, it’s going to affect the people right in that area,” Steadman said. “It did its job, as far as people wanting to get away from it.”
The entire restaurant was evacuated, according to Steadman, but had been cleared by later Wednesday night.
