BLM offering Christmas tree permits across Utah beginning Nov. 4

SALT LAKE CITY — The Bureau of Land Management will soon begin selling noncommercial permits to cut pinyon pine, juniper and fir trees for Christmas.

Permits are available for purchase during regular business hours, excluding federal holidays.

Monday, Nov. 4

Salt Lake field office, 2370 South Decker Lake Blvd., 801-977-4300: $10 each with a limit of two per household for juniper and pinyon pine. This year, the office added four new Christmas tree units due to high demand. The office also sells tree-cutting permits for the Fillmore field office and BLM-managed lands in Elko County. Tree permits for Elko are $4 each with a limit of 10 per household.

Fillmore field office, 95 E. 500 North, Fillmore, 435-743-3100: $10 each with a limit of three per household for juniper and pinyon pine.

St. George field office, 345 East Riverside Drive, St. George, 435-688-3200: $10 each with a limit of two per household for pinyon pine and juniper.

Arizona Strip District, 345 East Riverside Drive, St. George, 435-688-3200: $10 each with a limit of two per household for pinyon pine and juniper.

Kanab field office, 669 South Highway 89 A, Kanab, 435-644-1200: $10 each with a limit of two per household for juniper and pinyon pine.

Moab field office, 82 E. Dogwood, Moab, 435-259-2100: $10 each with a limit of two per household for pinyon pine.

Monticello field office, 365 N. Main, Monticello, 435-587-1500: $10 each with a limit of two per household for pinyon pine and juniper.

Tuesday, Nov. 5

Cedar City field office, 76 E. D.L. Sargent Drive, Cedar City, 435-865-3000: $10 each with a limit of two per household for juniper, pinyon pine, and white fir.

Richfield field office, 150 E. 900 North, Richfield, 435-896-1500: $10 each with a limit of two per household for pinyon pine and juniper.

Monday, Nov. 18

Price field office, 125 S. 600 West, Price, 435-636-3600: $10 each with a limit of five per household for pinyon pine and juniper.

Vernal field office, 170 S. 500 East, Vernal, 435-781-4400: $10 each with a limit of one permit per household for pinyon pine and juniper.

BLM officials suggest Christmas tree hunters be prepared for slick, snow-packed roads and carry chains. They are also advised to stay on designated roads and trails and to respect private property boundaries.

Also, let someone know where you’re planning to go and the approximate time you will return. Carry a cellphone, additional warm clothing, gloves, boots, a container of hot liquid, water and a lunch or snack, as well as a flashlight, shovel, first-aid kit, matches, axe or handsaw, and a rope to secure the tree.
