Social media went off after President Russell M. Nelson spoke at general conference.
The 189th Semiannual General Conference of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints ended on somewhat of a cliffhanger.
President Russell M. Nelson said 2020 will be a bicentennial year for the church, with next year’s conference being “different” than any year before.
“General conference next April will be different from any previous conference,” he said.
Social media reacted to the news with questions and excitement for next conference.

Wow what a cliff hanger to this season of general conference. Can't wait to see what happens next season. #GeneralConference

When the prophet in a few words can create as much hype in Latter-Day Saints for the next #GeneralConference as a Star Wars: Rise of Skywalker trailer... pic.twitter.com/oAwnLlEWcT

That’s a bigger cliffhanger than the ending of Season 3 of Stranger Things #GeneralConference

But President Nelson’s talk also touched on edited temple recommend questions, which excited Twitter as well.
You've got the interview questions. Go study. #GeneralConference
— Doug Burdette (@DougBurdette) October 6, 2019
About to go through the biggest temple recommend interview in history#GeneralConference
— Theo Gibb (@iamGibbySmallz) October 6, 2019
These new recommend questions will take some parsing, but first impressions is that they remove some ambiguity that has been the source of past confusion #GeneralConference
— Ross (@ldsbishop) October 6, 2019
A review of the Temple Recommend Questions. Wow - never thought I would have these asked me by the Prophet!! @NelsonRussellM #GeneralConference
— Jaren (@alreadygone1231) October 6, 2019
oooohhhh more - and more in-depth temple recommend questions! #GeneralConference
— Leading Saints (@LeadingSaints) October 6, 2019
I am glad #PresNelson is going over the Recommend Questions... it's good to have a self evaluation more often than the every two years between interviews #GeneralConference
— Jennifer Blythe (@riverbeauty3) October 6, 2019
I do appreciate @NelsonRussellM being precise and direct with the temple recommend questions. This will prevent anyone from being too casual. No, youth, you cannot play Fortnight at the baptistry. A little birdie told me that has happened...#Generalconference

Others speakers received social media reaction, too.
Elder Neil L. Andersen
With all this talk of fruit, do you think it's too late to invite #ElderAndersen over for some of our homemade apple pie after #GeneralConference?
— clark (@ClarkSiler) October 6, 2019
Elder Anderson telling the story of Lehi’s vision is really just there to make sure us members don’t die of stress knowing President Nelson is coming up. #GeneralConference

Scripturally, fruit has both good and bad connotations. Just so you know, this is the good kind.#ElderAndersen | #GeneralConference #ldsconf

Elder Ulisses Soares
We cannot repent for other people but we can forgive them #GeneralConference @Ulisses__Soares bringing more hard-hitting truths for this session!

Elder @Ulisses__Soares:

“We cannot repent for other people, but we can forgive them by refusing to be held hostage by those who have harmed us.”
I’ve felt that feeling of peace when it comes to forgiving those who have hurt me. How Great Thou Art! #GeneralConference
Elder Peter M. Johnson
Deception
— Caleb (@calebbrown32) October 6, 2019
Distraction
Discouragement
These are the tools of Satan#PeterJohnson#GeneralConference #DezNat
I also love that he just can't stop smiling for long. You can tell he has a real love for Jesus Christ and for helping us avoid the adversary. #ElderJohnson #GeneralConference
— Pammy (@DMThisIsPam) October 6, 2019
The sad thing is Twitter is deceptive and discouraging before it is distracting #GeneralConference
— Latter-day Likes (@LatterdayLikes) October 6, 2019
A lot of cross references from #ElderJohnson - careful vs casual, remembering who we are, the experience of Moses and not being deceived. Major themes running up in this #GeneralConference!
— Shannon Simmons (@artshelady) October 6, 2019
I totally want to just hang out with #ElderJohnson and feed off his enthusiasm “every day, every day, every day.”#GeneralConference

President M. Russell Ballard
Wow #PresidentBallard was with his wife for nearly 70 years? That's beautiful. I can't even imagine. #LDSConf #GeneralConference

President Ballard got me like #GeneralConference
— Ross (@ldsbishop) October 6, 2019
#ElderBallard and their family have no memory of an unkind word from Sister Ballard. Wow what a legacy to leave! She's inspiring me to change, I will need that mind erasing pen from Men in Black as well, but I accept the challenge. #GeneralConference pic.twitter.com/NYSZoHB2Ry

Express your love. Don't miss the opportunity to look into the eyes of your family members and express your love. One day you will discover like I did that the time to do so is gone. #ElderBallard #GeneralConference

The assurance of being with Barbara again brings me comfort.
If you don't have a man that speaks about you the way #PresBallard speaks about his late wife, get you a new man!!!#GeneralConference
— Janna Gardner (@OMG_its_Janna) October 6, 2019
I admit that I joke around entirely too much, but #PresidentBallard is REALLY making me want to give my family BIG HUGS! (And not just make jokes about everything) #GeneralConference pic.twitter.com/oF3aVKVnxw
— clark (@ClarkSiler) October 6, 2019
Thank you @BallardMRussell. I need to learn to enjoy this time in my life, this journey through graduate school and dissertation with small family in tow, no matter how hard it is, because this is a special moment in my life.#GeneralConference #LDSConf
— Samuel Alonzo Dodge (@SamuelADodge) October 6, 2019
More important than marrying right is living & loving right. I love @BallardMRussell admitting that he still wonders if he will qualify to live with his sweetheart after this life. Vulnerability looks great on the general leadership. #latterdaysaint #GeneralConference #progress

I have heard from so many people, members of all different faiths, who have the firm belief that they will see their loved ones again in Heaven and that their families will be reunited after death.

2. Consistent repentance and covenant keeping brings happiness
3. Greater happiness comes from greater holiness#PresidentEyring | #GeneralConference
#PresidentEyring is telling about his first time at the #SLC Temple. So sweet. I remember my first time at the #DC Temple and it was awesome #LDSConf #GeneralConference
— ladyozma (@ladyozma) October 6, 2019
Eyring's talk is everything "you have never been here before. You are remembering the time before you were born; waiting for Christ to enter the room."#GeneralConference
— Mandy Tremelling (@MandyTremmy) October 6, 2019
It's always great to hear the grandfatherly kindness and wisdom from @EyringHB. You can tell he's inspired with the clarity with which he preaches #Generalconference
— Brad James (@BradfatherSpeak) October 6, 2019
Greater holiness will not come simply by asking for it.
— Al Carraway (@AlCarraway) October 6, 2019
It will come by doing what is needed for God to change us.
