Hiker from New Jersey missing a month found dead in southern Utah

BOULDER, Garfield County — The body of a missing hiker has been found near Boulder, the Garfield County sheriff said Wednesday.

Norman Everett Applegate Jr., 72, of Seaside Park, New Jersey, was discovered on Tuesday, according to Sheriff Danny Perkins.

Applegate had left Boulder for a day hike on Sept. 26 and had not returned.

His body was recovered by a search and rescue crew on Wednesday, the sheriff said.

The cause of Applegate’s death is still under investigation, but investigators don’t currently believe his death was suspicious, according to Perkins.
