The pumpkin, grown and harvested by inmates with the the Utah Correctional Industries’ Green Thumb Nursery, was one of several dozen delivered to the school for students with severe mental and physical disabilities. Officers with the department arrived at the school early Tuesday to scatter the pumpkins across the school’s front lawn. They then stayed to help the students choose their pick of the patch. The Green Thumb Nursery is part of a horticultural apprenticeship program where inmates grow annuals, perennials, grasses, groundcover, and vegetables for sale to greenhouses and government agencies.
