94-year-old man in wheelchair hit and killed by car in Salt Lake City

SALT LAKE CITY — A 94-year-old man using a motorized wheelchair was hit and killed by a car while crossing the street Wednesday afternoon.

The man, whose name has not been released, was crossing at the intersection of Wilmington Avenue and Highland Drive in Salt Lake City about 3:45 p.m., according to Salt Lake City Fire Captain Adam Archuleta.

The man was “conversational” with paramedics on the way to the hospital, but died in the hospital later, Archuleta said.

Archuleta said Thursday that he did not know how or why the crash occurred.
