SALT LAKE CITY — An Emery County deputy died unexpectedly Monday morning after a nearly three-decade career with the sheriff’s office.
The death of Jeff Weber, 51, was due to a combination of ongoing medical conditions and a short illness, the sheriff’s office wrote in a Facebook post.
The post describes Weber as a “truly larger than life” colleague who could usually be found in the weight room at work on his days off.
“He had a keen knowledge of the law, was always willing to step up and help his co-workers, and was dedicated to serving and protecting the citizens of Emery County for over 28 years,” the sheriff’s office wrote.
Weber began his career with Emery County as a corrections officer at the jail in 1991. Since 1996, he had worked as a patrol deputy.
Before joining the Emery County Sheriff’s Office, Weber worked at the Central Utah Correctional Facility.
