SEATTLE — Utah got its revenge on Washington.

The No. 9 Utes rallied from down 11 early to beat the Huskies 33-28 on Saturday at Husky Stadium in a rematch of last year’s Pac-12 Championship Game.

Utah scored 20 straight points to improve to 8-1 on the year and, more importantly, 5-1 in Pac-12 play. Washington, which beat Utah 10-3 in last year’s Pac-12 title game, dropped to 5-4 and 2-4 in league play.

Here’s three takeaways that defined the game.

Senior QB leads rally

Utah senior quarterback Tyler Huntley, dealing with a leg injury, gutted out a big game, as he finished with 284 passing yards while completing 19 of 24 passes. He completed his first nine passes in the second half to help the Utes rally and finish with 399 yards of total offense.

With Utah trailing 21-19 early in the fourth, Huntley led the go-ahead score, including hitting Jaylen Dixon for a 41-yard gain on a third-and-12. Huntley then capped the drive with a 1-yard touchdown to give Utah its first lead at 26-21.

Defense responds to adversity

The Huskies grabbed the momentum early on by scoring touchdowns on two of their first three drives — on two TD passes by Jacob Eason — to build a 14-3 lead. Prior to those scores, Utah had only given up one touchdown over the previous 14 quarters.

After those early struggles, though, the Utes defense bounced back in a big way. They forced the Huskies into punts on four of their next eight drives and also had a turnover on downs and two interceptions in that stretch, highlighted by a Jaylon Johnson 39-yard pick-six in the third quarter that made it 21-19 late in the third quarter.

Washington — which was 6 of 16 on third down and had 369 total yards — turned the ball over three times, including two critical Jacob Eason interceptions in the third quarter. Utah turned those miscues into nine points, while Washington failed to convert two Utah turnovers into any points.

Finishing strong

Utah outscored Washington 14-7 in the fourth quarter, counting a late Husky score, and behind Huntley the Utes’ offense was solid on third down in taking the lead.

In addition to the 41-yard pass to Dixon on third down on the first scoring drive of the fourth quarter, the Utes converted two third-down attempts on their next drive — Huntley passes of 14 yards to Solomon Enis and 28 yards to Samson Nacua — before Zack Moss scored his second touchdown of the day to end the drive with a third-and-goal score from 2 yards out.

Moss had 141 total yards in the game — 100 rushing and 41 receiving — and Utah finished the game converting 9 of 16 third downs.
