ZION NATIONAL PARK — The body of a 19-year-old woman from Maine who went missing while hiking in Zion National Park was found Thursday morning.
The name of the woman has not yet been released.
Park officials were notified about 5:30 p.m. Wednesday evening of a missing hiker in the Angels Landing area, prompting a joint investigation by Zion National Park and the Washington County Sheriff’s Office.
A search and rescue team began their search at daybreak Thursday morning and found the woman’s body below Angels Landing, according to Zion National Park. Investigators believe she likely fell.
The woman was hiking with friends when she went missing, National Park Service spokeswoman Aly Baltrus said.
