LEHI — One teenager was injured and three taken into custody following a shooting in the parking lot of a Lehi fast food restaurant early Sunday.
Just after midnight, Lehi police responded to a shooting at McDonald’s, 850 E. Main, involving what assistant city administrator Cameron Boyle only referred to as “underage individuals.”
One boy barely avoided serious injury when a bullet grazed his head, according to a prepared statement from Boyle. That victim was taken to a local hospital with injuries not considered to be life-threatening.
The incident began as a verbal argument and turned into a physical confrontation between two groups in the parking lot, according to Boyle. The groups did not know each other prior to the altercation.
During the confrontation, one boy pulled out a gun and fired one round, according to the statement.
“Three individuals” were taken to the Slate Canyon Youth Center in Provo. Others were cited and then released to their parents. The ages of the youths involved were not released, nor how many were involved, nor what they were arrested for or what prompted the fight.
“Police do not believe that this was a gang-related incident,” Boyle said in the statement.
