Three injured in drug deal gone bad in Utah County

OREM — A Provo man is accused of attacking three people, including two juveniles, during a drug-deal gone bad.

Cory Allen Meyer, 24, was charged Monday in 4th District Court with aggravated assault and two counts of child abuse, all first-degree felonies; drug distribution, a second-degree felony; possession of a weapon by a restricted person, a third-degree felony; possession of a weapon with intent to assault, a class A misdemeanor; and attempted obstruction of justice, a class A misdemeanor.

On Oct. 28, Meyer made arrangements to meet a man at an elementary school in Orem to buy marijuana, according to charging documents. However, Meyer also owed that man $300 from a prior drug deal, the charges state.

Meyer and two associates met with the man and two juveniles in the school parking lot. The man confronted Meyer about the $300 he was owed, according to charging documents, and was was stabbed or cut three times in the abdomen.

A 17-year-old boy was “knocked unconscious” with an object, and a 15-year-old boy received two cuts to his forearm, the charges state. The man whom Meyer owed money was taken to a local hospital where he underwent surgery.

“He needed several layers of stitches to close the wounds,” the charges state.

On Oct. 29, while Meyer was in the Utah County Jail, he called his girlfriend and asked her to delete information from his Snapchat account, according to charging documents.

Also on Oct. 29, Meyer was charged with theft by receiving stolen property, a third-degree felony; and two counts of drug possession in jail, a class A misdemeanor, for an incident on Oct. 25. Meyer is accused of stealing a snowboard and PlayStation 4 and then trying to sell those items, according to charging documents. The owner of the stolen property saw an ad online for his items being sold and arranged to meet Meyer. When Meyer showed up to sell the stolen merchandise, he was arrested, the charges state.

In May he was convicted of attempted shoplifting and sentenced to probation. And in January he was convicted fo theft, a third-degree felony, and given a suspended prison sentence, according to court records.
