Utah Utes move up one spot to No. 7 in second College Football Playoff rankings

SALT LAKE CITY — Utah was the benefactor of a pair of previously undefeated teams losing last weekend, as the Utes moved past one of them and up a spot to No. 7 in the second College Football Playoff rankings of the 2019 season released Tuesday.

Utah was No. 8 in last week’s inaugural 2019 CFP rankings, one spot behind fellow Pac-12 school Oregon. Like the Utes, the Ducks were on bye last week.

The top four included No. 1 LSU, No. 2 Ohio State, No. 3 Clemson and No. 4 Georgia.

Alabama came in at No. 6, while Oregon is No. 6.

There was shakeup in this week’s rankings after two teams previously in the top four lost — LSU beat Alabama 46-41 and Minnesota upset Penn State 31-26. LSU, which was No. 2 in the first rankings, jumped to the top spot while Alabama dropped two spots. Minnesota, previously No. 17, moved up to No. 8 while Penn State dropped five spots to No. 9.
