Police investigating suspicious death of Holladay woman

Woman was at her home with a man whom she had a protective order against

HOLLADAY — Police are investigating after a Holladay woman died earlier this week under suspicious circumstances after being at her home with a man who had a protective order against him.

About 6:30 a.m. Sunday morning, Unified fire received a medical call from a home at 2360 E. Phylden Drive, Unified Police Sgt. Melody Gray said. Medical crews found the owner, 43-year-old Ester Beveridge, unconscious.

She was taken to University Hospital. Beveridge remained unconscious in the hospital until she died Tuesday night, Gray said. Police were unable to speak to her.

Beveridge’s family members notified police that she had been at the home with a man she had dated, Jerry Zeibig, 43.

“They told us that she was in the hospital and that she had possibly been involved in a domestic altercation earlier in the day,” Gray said.

Beveridge had an active protective order against Zeibig, according to court documents. He was arrested Monday and booked into Salt Lake County Jail for investigation of violating a protective order.

According to an affidavit filed in support of his arrest, Zeibig told police he had been with Beveridge at the time she went unconscious and stated that “he knew of the protective order and that he shouldn’t have been with Ester.”

A CT scan showed she had a brain bleed, the affidavit states. Though police said Beveridge suffered from medical issues, “at this point the injury is suspicious,” according to the affidavit.

“There are a lot of unanswered questions that we may never know the answers to. We don’t know if he was there because she wanted him to be there, or we don’t know if he just went there. We have no idea,” Gray said.

Police Thursday were awaiting autopsy results, according to the sergeant. She said police were “exploring other avenues of investigation” in the case to find answers.

In September, Zeibig was arrested after police said he began punching Beveridge multiple times in her face as she slept, according to court records.

“Ms. Beveridge had a black eye and bruising near her other eye,” court documents state.

Zeibig was charged with domestic violence assault, a class A misdemeanor, in that case.
