SALT LAKE CITY — A Salt Lake man who was one of two people shot in a downtown apartment complex last week died from his injuries, police said Friday.
Terrance Jefferies Jr., 25, died the same day as the Nov. 27 shooting, Salt Lake police detective Greg Wilking said, but police waited to notify his family before sharing the update with the public. The other victim is expected to recover.
Meanwhile, the search for the shooter is ongoing as police investigate the case as a homicide.
Jefferies — who was a resident at the Skyhouse Apartment Complex, 308 W. North Temple — was inside his apartment with the other victim about 11 a.m. when an unidentified third person came to the apartment, Wilking said.
Shots were fired, hitting both Jefferies and the other victim. Jefferies fled the apartment and was later found in the hallway, Wilking said. The other victim escaped out onto the balcony and scaled down to another floor, where he knocked on the door of another apartment for help.
Both Jefferies and the other victim were taken to the hospital; their conditions at the time were reported as serious but stable.
Police do not yet know the motive of the shooter, what took place in the apartment immediately before the shots were fired, or the shooter’s relationship to Jefferies and the other victim, Wilking said.
“At this point, we’re not able to say with 100% certainty” who the shooter was, Wilking said.
Salt Lake police are asking anybody with information about the case to come forward.
