Letter: Bombing cultural sites would have negative long-term effects

Having lived two years in Iran, I was alarmed by the news that President Donald Trump is considering bombing cultural sites in Iran.

Would those be sites of antiquity, such as Persepolis, tombs of poets, prominent mosques? The desecration of any of those would certainly alienate most of the world and certainly would alienate the thousands of Iranians who are pro-American but necessarily must remain silent regarding the politics and actions of the two countries.

Even if it is only sabre-rattling, it’s an ill-advised statement.
