SALT LAKE CITY — A man currently incarcerated at the Central Utah Correctional Facility has been charged with allegedly raping a girl he walked home from school in 2010 when he was also a juvenile.
Oscar Eduardo Godinez, 23, was charged Monday in 3rd District Court with two counts of aggravated sexual abuse of a child, a first-degree felony, and sexual battery, a class A misdemeanor.
In 2010, when Godinez was 14, he walked home from school with a girl listed in court documents as under 14 years old. While walking through a Salt Lake City park, Godinez is accused of taking the girl into a bathroom and raping her, causing her to blackout during the assault, according to charging documents.
When the girl woke up, Godinez told her “don’t tell anyone what happened,” the charges state.
In 2016, Godinez was convicted on an amended charge of attempted theft by receiving stolen property and drug distribution and was sentenced in 2018 to up to five years in prison, according to court records. Godinez was also convicted of drug distribution in 2015.
