Houston Rockets forward Thabo Sefolosha missed two free throws. Utah Jazz fans got a soda. Why?
Utah Jazz fans may have noticed the Chick-fil-A reward for missed free throws changed Monday night, but there’s a reason.
The setup: Chick-fil-A and the Utah Jazz have partnered with a promotion that will give anyone in the state of Utah a free reward of a chicken sandwich or chicken nuggets if an opposing player misses two free throws back-to-back in the fourth quarter of a game, as I wrote about for the Deseret News.
What’s new: On Monday night, Houston Rockets forward Thabo Sefolosha missed a pair of free throws with 39 seconds left. Jazz fans should have received the free reward, right?
- Fans found there was a free fountain drink — any size — but not tea or lemonade.
My Chick-fil-a fowl shot for the Jazz was a “fountain beverage” instead of a chicken sandwich...I’m so upset

Me looking at @ChickfilA when we were originally supposed to get chicken sandwiches from the Jazz games, then it went to chicken nuggets, now it's a drink?? pic.twitter.com/9YTS17WqVC

Major controversy in Utah.

2 missed Jazz opponent FTs are supposed to entitle the state to free Chick-Fil-A chicken sandwich, as announced by press release.
In a breach of trust, the reward given today is only a free fountain drink. You can’t even choose tea/lemonade.

In the end we are complaining about free stuff.

I'm ok with the drink since we got nuggets just days ago.
That’s fowl

Yes, but: Chick-fil-A spokesperson Troy Apolonio told KSL Sports that the company reserves the right to change the reward after back-to-back nights. After all, the Dallas Mavericks missed a pair of free throws on Saturday afternoon.
