SALT LAKE CITY — A federal appeals court has upheld St. George businessman Jeremy Johnson’s already reduced prison sentence.

The 10th Circuit Court of Appeals in Denver affirmed Johnson’s 87-month sentence in a ruling issued last Friday.

U.S. District Judge Dee Benson scaled back Johnson’s original 135-month sentence after the one-time multimillionaire appealed his 2016 conviction for crimes related to his internet marketing company, iWorks. Johnson appealed the new sentence in January 2019.

A jury convicted Johnson of eight counts of making false statements but acquitted him of 78 counts of bank fraud, wire fraud and money laundering.

Johnson was a central figure in the public corruption cases against former Utah Attorneys General Mark Shurtleff and John Swallow. Prosecutors dropped charges against Shurtleff and a jury acquitted Swallow.

Johnson, 44, is incarcerated in federal prison in Safford, Arizona. He is scheduled to be released in April 2022, according to the Bureau of Prisons.
