SALT LAKE CITY — Police agencies throughout Utah reported 911 lines are down or experiencing issues in their area due to a problem with multiple cellphone carriers on Saturday afternoon.
Agencies that reported the outages include Provo, St. George, Woods Cross, Layton, Bountiful, Cottonwood Heights, Sandy, and Salt Lake City police departments, as well as Summit and Davis county sheriff’s offices.
Utah Highway Patrol Cpl. Colton Freckleton said the issue wasn’t affecting his agency’s dispatch centers.
SLC 911 Bureau, which administers the city’s dispatch service, ran tests on calls with Verizon, AT&T and T-Mobile phones, and they all intermittently experienced trouble getting through to 911, said bureau director Lisa Burnette.
The agencies affected by the outages have each urged residents to use their non-emergency number if they are unable to connect to 911.
