As a small business owner, I have benefited greatly from the tools and services offered by Google. They are user-friendly, empowering and assist the growth of my business by helping me reach new customers.
Sadly, some elected leaders who have long supported free and open competition are using their public position to pick winners and losers in our digital ecosystem. They seem focused on high-profile tech companies, but they rarely recognize how those services benefit small businesses and consumers.
We have all heard elected leaders say “Small business is the backbone of our economy.” Well, Google is the backbone for many small businesses, including mine.
In 2018, Google helped more than 1.3 million individual businesses, website publishers and nonprofits benefit from cutting-edge tools. Google helped create $335 billion in U.S. economic activity, hired 10,000 people and invested $9 billion in U.S. data centers and offices, with billions more in the works.
For small businesses and new startups, the ability to access a broad and diverse array of consumers with the same advertising tools available to large corporations is the ultimate equalizer.
