Utah native Tony Finau was on the brink of winning the second PGA Tour event of his career Sunday, but he’ll have to wait longer.
Finau led Webb Simpson by two shots with two holes to play at the Waste Management Phoenix Open, but Simpson birdied both holes and Finau made just par on each and the two golfers headed to a playoff.
On the first hole (the 18th), Simpson again birdied, Finau again made just par and Simpson won the tournament.
In the final round, Simpson shot a 69 while Finau, who was the leader going into the day, shot a 70.
Finau has not won a PGA Tour event since the Puerto Rico Open in March of 2016, although he has three top five finishes in major tournaments since then and four overall for his career.
