SALT LAKE CITY — Bragging rights between two ESPN colleagues led to a wager that involves where Utah State quarterback Jordan Love will be taken in the 2020 NFL draft.
During coverage of the NFL Scouting Combine on Thursday, ESPN’s Todd McShay shared why he thinks Love is the “most underrated quarterback” among this year’s QB class.
After commenting that fellow draft expert Mel Kiper Jr. evaluates quarterbacks like he’s stuck in the Flintstones age — looking for the big-strong-armed quarterback — McShay said, “I need a Jordan Love from Utah State. I need a guys who’s quick twitch, gets the ball out quickly. He can change his arm angles, he can do all the little things.”

Behind this year’s top quarterback prospects in LSU’s Joe Burrow and Alabama’s Tua Tagovailoa, Love is among a group of next-tier QB prospects, along with Oregon’s Justin Herbert, who could be selected in the first round.
McShay then took the praise for Love, who left USU following his junior season after throwing for 8,600 yards, 60 touchdowns and 29 interceptions as an Aggie, a step further.
“He is the most underrated quarterback in this year’s class. He will be the third quarterback taken, ahead of Justin Herbert,” McShay said.
“Is that the wager you want to put?” Kiper asked during the ESPN broadcast.
Then McShay and Kiper shook on the bet, with McShay predicting Love to be drafted before Herbert and Kiper the opposite side of the wager. The agreement is the loser donates $5,000 to the Jimmy V Foundation.
