SALT LAKE CITY — Both Gach hit three free throws with 0.6 seconds remaining in overtime as Utah rallied to beat Colorado 74-72 at the Huntsman Center on Saturday in the regular-season finale for both teams.
Here are three takeaways that defined the game:
- Utah trailed 72-71 in overtime when Gach was fouled by McKinley Wright IV on a 3-point attempt with less than a second to play. Gach cooly sank all three free throws and Wright missed a half-court shot on the inbound as the Utes (16-14, 7-11 Pac-12), who trailed much of the day, trailed by two but converted on their final possessions in both overtime and regulation.
- Gach led the Utah attack, pouring in a career-high 28 points on 9 of 15 shooting while adding five rebounds, four assists and two steals. He scored 16 points in the first half, drove for the game-tying shot with two seconds left in regulation to force overtime and hit the winning free throws while adding a pair of 3-pointers.
- Colorado (21-10, 10-8 Pac-12) outshot Utah 43.9% to 39.7% from the field, but the Utes had one more 3-pointer, hitting 8 of 24 to the Buffaloes’ 7 of 28. Alfonso Plummer made five 3-pointers for the Utes and had 21 points. Utah also had the edge at the free-throw line, making 16 of 19 while Colorado was 9 of 12. The Buffaloes’ Wright missed the front-end of a 1-and-1 with eight seconds left in overtime to set up Gach’s heroics.
