SOUTH SALT LAKE — At least five people were critically injured in a crash with a TRAX train Sunday afternoon, authorities said.
The crash occurred at 210 W. 3300 South when a westbound SUV hit the side of the northbound train, South Salt Lake Deputy Fire Chief Rodger Hoffman said.
The cause of the crash remained under investigation. Utah Transit Authority camera footage from the area needed to be reviewed, according to Hoffman.
All eight people who were inside the SUV were taken to several area hospitals.
At least five were listed in critical condition, Hoffman said.
Only a few people were on the train at the time of the crash. None of them were injured, according to the deputy chief.
The northbound train was expected to remain derailed for several hours.
