The priest reportedly passed away from the coronavirus
An Italian priest has reportedly died after he contracted the coronavirus and refused a ventilator, opting to make sure a younger patient could have one, according to multiple reports.
What happened:
- The Rev. Don Giuseppe Berardelli, 72, died sometime between March 15 and March 16.
He had been in the hospital in Lovere, Italy, after coming down with symptoms for the coronavirus, according to Prima Bergamo, an Italian news site.
- The Rev. Berardelli — the archpriest of Casnigo, a northern Italian town — was offered a ventilator. He refused it, though, so that someone younger could use it, according to USA Today.

- The Rev. Berardelli is one of at least 50 priests who have died in Italy because of COVID-19, which has ravaged much of the European country, BBC News reports.
