Why hasn’t Lori Vallow posted bail yet? Idaho bail companies don’t want to work with her

Reports suggest that bond companies have turned her down

Lori Vallow Daybell remains in jail up in Madison County, Idaho, but deputies are ready to let her go if she can post bail. But local bond companies in Idaho are worried about paying her bail, the East Idaho News reports.

What’s going on?

• Vallow Daybell made her first court appearance last Friday in Idaho after she was arrested in Hawaii back in February. A judge reduced her bond from $5 million to $1 million. She was expected to leave jail overnight.
• Vallow Daybell must pay the bond through cash, collateral or a bail bonds company. According to the East Idaho News, she would need to pay 10% of the bond amount — so $100,000 — along with jail fees and state fees.
• Two bond companies in Idaho have declined to work with Daybell despite her team reaching out to those companies.
• East Idaho News said: “Running a bail bonds company can be risky because if Daybell fails to show up for court, it is up to the company to return her to custody or risk being liable for the entire $1 million.”

What’s next?

• There is a preliminary hearing scheduled for March 18 and March 19 in the case.
