Philadelphia Phillies star Bryce Harper and his wife, Kayla, who are members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, shared a message of faith and hope on social media Thursday as the coronavirus pandemic continues, and pledged $500,000 to provide aid to both Philadelphia and their shared hometown of Las Vegas.
In a note posted on Bryce Harper’s Instagram and Twitter pages, they wrote, “We are blessed to be together as a family during this pandemic but realize many do not have the same luxury. As the world battles COVID-19 and its effects, we are keeping the faith and praying for a swift return to normalcy. Through the power of prayer and helping each other with pure intent and love, we will get through this TOGETHER! Faith in our Lord and Savior will help heal the world.”
The note said the couple is partnering with two organizations in Las Vegas and one in Philadelphia to provide help for “those in most immediate need.”
“NOW is the time to come together and adhere to the guidelines of medical professionals!” the note read. “We are wishing the best to all with our prayers during this time.”
The note concludes with #CrushCovid.
A six-time All-Star in eight seasons in Major League Baseball and winner of the National League MVP in 2015, Bryce Harper signed a gargantuan 13-year, $330 million contract with the Phillies in 2019 after starting his career with the Washington Nationals.
The 2020 Major League Baseball season was scheduled to begin on March 26 but is suspended indefinitely during the pandemic.
