How many Latter-day Saint temples are there? Here’s the updated number

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints announced eight new temples Sunday. Here’s where they are located, announced and under construction.

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints continues to announce new temples.

What happened:

On Sunday, during the 190th Annual General Conference, President Russell M. Nelson announced eight new temples to be built in Utah, the United States and the world. Here’s a rundown of the new temple locations:

  • Bahía Blanca, Argentina
  • Tallahassee, Florida
  • Lubumbashi, Democratic Republic of the Congo
  • Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania
  • Benin City, Nigeria
  • Syracuse, Utah
  • Dubai, United Arab Emirates
  • Shanghai, People’s Republic of China.

Total:

The eight new temples increase the total of operating, under construction and announced temples for the church to 225.

  • 161 temples are operating.
  • 7 temples are under renovation
  • 43 temples have been announced.
  • 14 temples remain under construction

Utah:

The Syracuse Temple will be the 24th temple in the Beehive State.
