Letter: Significant sample testing would be more effective than trying to test every single person

We now have consensus that the key to winning the war against COVID-19 is testing. But, many are saying that we must have the capability of testing everyone and doing it multiple times.

Right now this is impossible. There is another solution: using sampling techniques and testing only a small fraction of the total population. We should appoint a special task force of scientists and health care professionals who would select the appropriate samples, do the testing and provide the data. This would be an ongoing process. We can do the sample testing now and it is actually more effective and efficient than testing everyone.
