The Most Rev. Oscar Solis, bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Salt Lake City, hands out a palm at the Cathedral of the Madeleine while celebrating Mass in Salt Lake City on Palm Sunday. During the tradition observed by many Christian faiths, worshippers receive palm fronds as part of a reenactment of Jesus Christ’s arrival in Jerusalem, when his followers threw clothes and possibly palms in front of him, just days before his crucifixion. Palm Sunday begins Holy Week.
