SALT LAKE CITY — Charlie Bird, who came out as gay after earning national recognition as BYU’s Cosmo the Cougar mascot, will be the featured speaker for the first of an ongoing series of virtual firesides hosted by Affirmation beginning Sunday at 7 p.m. MT.
Savannah Stevenson, who played Mary, the mother of Jesus Christ, in the Bible video series produced by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, will provide music for the fireside.
The event will be available on Affirmation’s Facebook and YouTube pages and at affirmation.org/live. Affirmation is an independent support group for LGBTQ members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and their families and friends.
Bird, who was one of the Cosmo mascots from 2015-18, published a guest opinion piece in the Deseret News in February 2019 titled, “Everyone loved me as Cosmo the Cougar, but would they love who I was behind the mask?”
Stevenson is an English singer and stage actress who played the witch Glinda in “Wicked” on London’s West End. She recently sang “For Good” with 22 other West End witches of “Wicked” in a video that raised money for COVID-19 relief.
