I have read many articles in the Deseret News on the novel coronavirus COVID-19. The virus has now taken a death toll surpassing all United States soldiers killed in the Vietnam War, as of right now. And the virus is not stopped or cured yet. The numbers of fatalities keep climbing. Of those who recover, some of their “recoveries” have been horrifying, with scarred lungs and damaged kidneys.
People are naturally worried about drastic changes to our supply chain, our food chain and our way of living. I personally think it will never be the same in America, but a “new normal.” And that is assuming that we (our own people) don’t panic and turn on ourselves. Economic recovery could span several years and still never resemble normalcy.
These are indeed uncertain times, and we can only pray for solutions. Otherwise, we risk recurrences and a further crippling of the health of our people. And, without good health of the bulk of the populace, our overall economy will be just as crippled. Political partisanship needs to end on all sides. Only American unity and “helping thy neighbor” will save us.
