PROVO — A mom and her toddler were hit Saturday by a Frontrunner train when the woman tried to cross the railroad tracks despite warning signals.
At about 3:30 p.m., the 21-year-old woman and her 2-1/2 old child came to crossing arms that were down near 500 S. 900 West and decided to “take the chance,” according to Utah Transit Authority spokesman Carl Arky.
Arky said both the mom and her child were hit by the commuter train and are in critical condition. The toddler was flown to Primary Children’s Hospital in Salt Lake City, and the mother was taken to Utah Valley Hospital in Provo.
