Utah Department of HealthUtah has seen 20,050 confirmed cases of COVID-19 with 166 total deaths as of Friday, according to the Utah Department of Health. That’s an increase of 676 cases from Thursday. Two new deaths were reported.
“For the second time in a week, we are announcing our highest daily case count total,” Dr. Angela Dunn, UDOH state epidemiologist, said Friday. “These cases affect all Utah residents. They have the potential to threaten our economy, and our ability to ensure people can receive the care they need in our hospitals.”
Worldwide, the novel coronavirus pandemic has now infected 9,473,214 cases and killed 484,249 people as of Friday, according to the World Health Organization.
The state in in its “yellow” risk phase.
The respiratory illness is especially hard on those who are elderly, immune-compromised or who have chronic health conditions. Children are not severely ill with COVID-19, as the resulting illness is called, unless they have an underlying condition, but they can transmit the illness.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is one of many government agencies providing extensive resources and advice on managing this coronavirus.
