Here’s where you can go to eat out or see a movie as Utah venues begin to reopen

Utah’s Hogle Zoo, The Gateway and City Creek malls, and Wiseguys Comedy Club are just some of the Utah venues that have begun to reopen

Health restrictions in many parts of Utah are beginning to be relaxed by Gov. Gary Herbert and local health officials, which means that many restaurants and venues that have been closed are beginning to reopen.

While many theaters and entertainment venues — such as the Eccles Theater and Abravanel Hall in Salt Lake City—are likely to remain closed for a while longer, some businesses have gradually begun to reopen with strict social distancing measures in place.

Here are some of the locations in Utah that have begun to reopen to the public.

Comedy and theater

• ComedySportz Utah in Provo is open for live shows on Friday and Saturday nights. They are limiting the seats available to enable social distancing and are also still offering live-streamed shows that can be watched from home online on Facebook.
• Parker Theatre in Salt Lake City will be performing “The Corona Conundrum” through June 6. They will be limiting seating and will require face masks for everyone in the theater.
• Wiseguys Comedy Club has reopened their Salt Lake and Ogden locations. Among other safety measures, they have reduced the capacity of each show by 65% to allow for social distancing and are checking the temperatures of all staff and customers before they enter the building.
• SCERA Center for the Arts in Orem will be performing “The Scarlet Pimpernel” from June 5-20. The theater will be reducing the number of available seats and strongly encourages patrons to wear masks.
• The Gateway in Salt Lake City will host local theater and dance company SONDERimmersive in their debut of “Through Yonder Window” from June 4-13. To maintain social distancing, the audience will view the performance from their cars, with sound piped in through a radio channel.

Outdoor activities

• The Hogle Zoo in Salt Lake City has reopened. Tickets must be bought online in advance and will only be valid for the date and time specified. Early or late arrivals will not be accommodated. Guests are asked to keep their visit to two hours and are strongly encouraged to wear a mask that covers the nose and mouth.
• The Loveland Living Planet Aquarium in Draper has reopened. They are limiting the number of guests and requiring all guests, including members, to make a reservation online before visiting. Areas such as the touch pools, Tuki’s Island, and the 4-D Theater will remain closed to avoid large gatherings of people. The aquarium strongly recommends a mask or face covering for all guests over the age of 2.
• The Ogden Nature Center in Ogden has reopened its trails to the public with limited hours. The Nature Center is asking that all visitors check in first at the Visitor Center to receive guidelines for the visit, and is encouraging all guests to wear masks.
• The Stokes Nature Center in Logan has reopened with limited hours.
• Thanksgiving Point in Lehi is reopening its venues in limited capacities. The Museum of Ancient Life, Ashton Gardens, and Farm Country have reopened, and the Butterfly Biosphere and Harvest Restaurant will reopen on May 15. Venues have been reconfigured to a one-way walkway and the number of guests is being limited each half hour to allow for social distancing. Areas of the Butterfly Biosphere will remain closed, including the Costa Rica Climber play areas. Masks are not required but are encouraged.
• The Tracy Aviary in Salt Lake City has reopened. The aviary is limiting the number of guests allowed inside at a time, has created one-way walkways between exhibits, and strongly encourages face masks for all guests.

Movies

• FatCats in Saratoga Springs has reopened its movie theater. Theater seats will be spaced every third seat and every other row (family groups sit together with a two-seat gap between next occupied seat). Guests are strongly encouraged to purchase tickets online.
• The Kaysville Theatre in Kaysville has reopened. The theater is limiting the number of guests at each screening to allow for social distancing.
• Megaplex Theatres is reopening for “Private Family Movie” screenings. Specific theater locations will accept reservations for groups of up to 20 family members to watch a movie. Families will receive 20 popcorn buckets and 20 large sodas, with no refills allowed.

• Redwood Drive In Theatre in West Valley City is open for the season with a variety of movies that are available to watch.
• SCERA Center for the Arts in Orem is reopening for special limited movie engagements. From June 1-6, the theater will show a series of Jane Austen films. SCERA is limiting capacity in the theater by blocking off every other row and strongly encourages guests to wear face masks.
• Water Gardens Cinema 6 in Pleasant Grove is open for drive-in movies. Concessions are available to buy inside the theater, or for order online or by phone during the movie and staff will deliver your order to your car.

Restaurants

• Restaurants that have reopened for limited dine-in service in Salt Lake City include the Blue Iguana, Chile Tepin, Eggs in the City, Market Street Grill, Moochie’s Meatballs, Oasis Cafe, O’Shucks Bar & Grill and Ahh Sushi, The Park Cafe, Penny Ann’s Cafe, Stanza Italian Bistro, Stoneground Italian Kitchen, and Taqueria 27. Check with individual restaurants for adjusted hours of operation and social distancing measures.
• Restaurant chains that are reopening dine-in services at specific locations in Utah include Chili’s, IHOP, Longhorn Steakhouse, Olive Garden, Red Lobster, and Red Robin. Check with individual restaurants for which locations are open, adjusted hours of operation, and social distancing measures.
• City Creek Mall in Salt Lake City has a limited number of restaurants open for dine-in service, including Blue Lemon, The Cheesecake Factory, and Zeppe’s Italian Ice and Frozen Custard. Check with the mall or individual restaurants for adjusted hours of operation and social distancing measures.
• There are several restaurants at The Gateway in Salt Lake City that have reopened for dine-in options. ’Bout Time Pub and Grill, Chedda Burger, Fleming’s Steakhouse, HallPass, Midici Pizza, and Tucano’s Brazilian Grill have reopened for dine-in. Check with the mall or individual restaurants for adjusted hours of operation and social distancing measures.

Art museums and galleries

• Anthony’s Fine Art & Antiques in Salt Lake City is open and available to visit.
• Dreamscapes at The Gateway in Salt Lake City will reopen on June 4 with five new art installations. Dreamscapes is limiting the number of guests allowed inside at one time, as well as requiring all guests to wear masks and asking that guests maintain 6 feet of distance from each other.
• Julie Nester Gallery in Park City is reopen with limited hours and is also available to visit by appointment.
• Modern West Fine Art in Salt Lake City is open with temporary hours and is also available to visit by appointment. Guests are required to wear masks in the gallery.
• Southern Utah Museum of Art in Cedar City has reopened to the public. The museum is asking guests to maintain 6 feet of distance between other visitors, and will be opening early from 10-11 a.m. every day for visitors who are 65 years of age or older or who have underlying medical conditions.
