Many companies have expressed support for the Black Lives Matter movement as cities across the country protest the death of George Floyd and police brutality
As cities across the United States continue to protest over the death of George Floyd and against police brutality, Hollywood and other media and entertainment companies took to social media to express their support of the Black Lives Matter movement, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Netflix, Hulu, Disney, Amazon and Warner Bros. are among the Hollywood studios that have issued statements via social media, while other companies like Twitter, YouTube and TikTok have also expressed their support, Variety reported.
“To be silent is to be complicit. Black lives matter,” Netflix wrote on Twitter. “We have a platform, and we have a duty to our Black members, employees, creators and talent to speak up.”

Black lives matter.
We have a platform, and we have a duty to our Black members, employees, creators and talent to speak up.
“Together we stand with the Black community—colleagues, artists, writers, storytellers, producers, our viewers—and all allies in the fight against racism and injustice,” Amazon Prime tweeted.

“We support Black lives. Today, and every day,” tweeted Hulu, which is owned by Disney. “You are seen. You are heard. And we are with you.”

“While we don’t have all the answers, we resolve to use our compassion, our creative ideas and our collective sense of humanity to ensure we are fostering a culture that acknowledges our people’s feelings and their pain,” Disney’s Chief Executive Bob Chapek, Executive Chairman Bob Iger, and Chief Diversity Officer Latondra Newtown wrote in a statement, according to Forbes. “We also realize that now more than ever is the time for us all to further strengthen our commitment to diversity and inclusion everywhere.”

Other studios and streaming services that shared messages of support include HBO and HBO Max, Starz, Viacom, Warner Bros., and Pop TV, according to Entertainment Weekly.
Meanwhile, social media companies have also found ways to express support. Facebook is donating $10 million to groups that are working against racial inequality, according to CNN.
The pain of the last week reminds us how far our country has to go to give every person the freedom to live with dignity...

YouTube will also be donating $1 million “in support of efforts to address social injustice,” according to Variety.
We stand in solidarity against racism and violence. When members of our community hurt, we all hurt. We’re pledging $1M in support of efforts to address social injustice.

The messages of support have been the subject of both praise and criticism on social media.
Filmmaker Ava DuVernay tweeted, “Well done,” in response to the statement from Netflix.
But the statement from Amazon drew a response from the ACLU on Twitter, which criticized Amazon for selling face recognition technology to police, which the advocacy group claims “supercharges police abuse.”
Cool tweet. Will you commit to stop selling face recognition surveillance technology that supercharges police abuse? https://t.co/DfnAhyw2PW
