Michael Keaton will make his debut in the DC Extended Universe, linking a previous franchise
Multiple reports suggest that Michael Keaton — who starred as Batman in “Batman” and “Batman Returns” — will return to the cape and cowl in the upcoming “The Flash” movie.
What’s going on:
- TheWrap reports that Keaton is in talks to return to the role of Batman, starring alongside Ezra Miller in Warner Bros. upcoming DC Comics film “The Flash.”
- ComicBook.com reports that Keaton “is going to play Batman in the Flashpoint movie.”
- He will play “a version of Batman,” but it’s unclear which version, per ComicBook.com.
- Talks are in the early stages and nothing is confirmed, according to TheWrap.
Why this matters
- The film would reportedly introduce the multiverse. This would connect Miller’s Flash — introduced in the recent DC Extended Universe of films, which includes “Aquaman” and “Justice League” — and Keaton’s “Batman” series, which ran through the ‘80s and ‘90s.
- Miller — who plays Barry Allen, or The Flash — appeared in The CW’s crossover event “Crisis on Infinite Earths,” where he interacted with Grant Gustin’s version of Barry Allen.
- TheWrap reports: “And while it’s still not known how the multiverse concept will play out in other future DC Comics movies, it certainly expands the available options for Warner Bros. as it develops them.”

It's going to be REAL interesting to see how they address Ben Affleck's Bruce Wayne and Batman, if at all, going forward.

One last note
- Robert Pattinson will play Bruce Wayne and Batman in “The Batman,” a film from Matt Reeves. This version of the character is expected to be the future of the franchise.
- One theory suggests Pattinson’s trilogy will stand on its own, similar to the recent “Joker” film.
